About St. Catherine Labouré
St. Catherine Labouré was born on May 2, 1806, in Fain-lès-Moutiers, France. After the death of her mother at a young age, Catherine developed a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom she lovingly chose as her heavenly Mother.
She entered the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, where she lived a life of humility, prayer, and service to the poor.
In 1830, while serving at the Rue du Bac convent in Paris, Catherine received a series of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During these apparitions, Our Lady instructed her to have a medal made according to the vision she received. The medal became known as the Miraculous Medal because of the many extraordinary graces and conversions associated with those who wear it with faith.
Despite receiving such an extraordinary privilege, Catherine remained humble and kept the apparitions hidden for many years, continuing her quiet work among the elderly and the poor.
She died on December 31, 1876, and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1947. Her incorrupt body rests in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Paris, where countless pilgrims come to pray each year.
Her feast day is celebrated on November 28.
