Biography:
Saint William of Vercelli, also known as William of Montevergine, was born in Vercelli, Italy, around 1085. Orphaned at a young age, he devoted his life to God and lived as a hermit. Inspired by a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, William sought a life of deeper holiness and solitude.
He later founded the Monastery of Montevergine in southern Italy, which became a center of monastic reform and spiritual revival. Known for his humility, strict asceticism, and miraculous healings, Saint William attracted many followers who were drawn to his holiness and way of life.
He died in 1142 and was quickly venerated as a saint by the people of the region. His monastic foundation continues today.
