Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
-John 15:13
Love sounds easy when it’s just a word. But real love—the kind Jesus lived—is costly. It’s not just affection or good intentions. It’s sacrifice.
As Lent moves toward Holy Week, we’re being invited to walk that road with Him. It’s not comfortable. But it’s real.
It looks like forgiving someone who won’t say sorry.
It sounds like choosing silence over gossip.
It feels like giving when no one’s watching.
Jesus didn’t love us with words alone. He loved with wounds.
And here’s the hard truth: if we want to follow Him, we can’t love cheaply either. We can’t pick up His cross halfway. It’s all or nothing.
So today, don’t be afraid to love like Jesus. It may cost you your comfort—but it brings a peace the world can’t give.
Fasting of the body is food for the soul.” -St. John Chrysostom
Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
You gave everything for me—Your time, Your tears, even Your life.
Teach me how to love like that.
Not just when it’s easy, but when it hurts.
Not just with my words, but with my life.
Help me love the people I find hard to love.
Give me courage to forgive, to give, to stay faithful.
Let this Lent burn away my selfishness and make room for Your love to live in me.
Jesus, make my love look more like Yours.
Amen.
Make this Lent the best of your life (Prayer, Fasting, Repent, Almsgiving).
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:16
