5 Reasons to go to Mass

So many people, especially those of the younger generation cannot understand mass. To them a Sunday is a time to recover from a late night out or there are countless better things to do. Mass for us all is an important part of life and is very much a sacrifice that really should be, must be made.
Mass is, after all, only a few hours of a week and it really is not a lot to give as there is so much more to gain.

Here are 5 reasons to go to mass:

 To Receive Communion

As mentioned in the opening, Mass is a sacrifice and it acknowledges the perfect sacrifice made by Christ on the Cross.  As Christ gave his blood and body to the Father on the cross, so we repeat the same through communion.

Communion is first and foremost a meal where consecrated bread and wine become the embodiment of the blood and body of Christ.  By eating and sharing in this “meal” we are sharing in Christ Himself gaining real food for our soul.

To Give thanks to God

When we look around us there is so much to be thankful for, even if we may feel there is not. Mass is our chance to give thanks to God who created everything including us. Singing praises, joining together in prayers of thanks and waking up to the fact that we are nothing without God is vital. It is all too easy to slip into a world without God and Mass ensures we remain connected and grateful.

Grow in words of faith

Even if we feel we have little to be thankful for, God’s word will always lift us up. Mass is a chance to hear God’s word and make a time for Him to speak to us. At Mass, we can learn about and from our maker and find solutions to challenges life throws at us.

Pay your tithe

In Malachi 3:10 the Lord instructs us to “Bring the whole tithe to the storehouse”. More than that God makes it clear that we can test him in this.  Bringing your Tithe to Mass is a command that has powerful results when followed. We can feel good that we have paid our tithe; it is all part of being thankful and being grateful. Paying your tithe forms part of a very fulfilling life.

Peace Joy and Happiness

The most powerful and even most important part of mass is finding a certain peace that flows with joy and happiness. In congregation with other believers, happiness is always found. It is chance to share, a chance to pray with or for others. Mass is fulfilling and leaves a certain feeling inside that only God can create.

Living in the busy world we live in today Mass could not be more important. As much as we have so much to do, so many people to see and so much life to live God only asks a small amount of time from us to be acknowledged.  Mass is not a waste of time, Mass is also changing the times and messages are becoming more meaningful with songs of worship becoming more popular in style. Without mass your life is not complete, try it and feel something inside grow.

  1. I do believe that attending mass lifts my spirit and brings me closer to God. During these uncertain times of CoVid 19, I have missed the opportunities to attend mass for the sake of being safe from the disease that plagues the world. I try to go to mass when I feel that it is not so crowded; for the safety of my fellow Catholics and myself. So when I do attend mass, I feel uplifted, educated and happy that I attended. I pray with fervor that there will soon be a time that it is safe to attend mass regularly so that God will appreciate my prayers and invigorate me to do his will with small acts of kindness in and outside of the church’s walls.
